Everywhere we turn there are new dieting tricks and trends. They all have fancy names, new techniques, and lots of promises. Whether you are looking to build muscle, achieve a certain fitness goal, or lose weight it can be very confusing!! The physical fact of the matter is eating more calories than you burn makes you gain weight, eating less calories than you burn make you lose weight. Is sounds really easy, but what is a healthy weight for my body and activity level. Does it matter what kind of calories I consume? What factor do hormones play in my weight loss? All of these questions are valid. They all play a crucial role in weight loss or gain. Different foods affect your body in different ways! Some foods require more work to digest, absorb and metabolize. Foods rich in fiber impact your level of fullness and feelings of hunger. Fresh non packaged foods tend to have a higher nutrient dense ratio. These foods tend to aide with healthy digestion and satiety. Weight is a very individual matter. One rule of thumb that helps keep things real and achievable is the 80/20 rule. 80 % of the time make good health choices, 20% of the time you're ok to have something you enjoy. For breakfast try an organic bowl of The Grain Market Rolled Oats topped with fresh blackberries, diced almonds, and a drizzle of honey. If you want a burger for lunch go for a side salad instead of the fries. For dinner at home enjoy a warm bowl of soup filled with all your favorite vegetables topped with a scoop of cooked quinoa. For something sweet finish your day with a small serving of chia pudding with diced bananas and a sprinkle of cinnamon. 80/20....80/20!
