The O G Bircher Muesli
Developed in 1900 by a Swiss physician named Maiximilian Bircher-Benner, muesli has become a world favorite! It is full of raw ingredients like grains, nuts, seeds, and fruits. The original recipe is a bit different from our modern-day version of overnight oats. It consisted of oats soaked overnight in water. Then before serving, condensed milk, honey, grated apple, ground hazelnuts, and a squeeze of lemon were added. Muesli has taken on some wonderful new versions over the years. The simpleness of this overnight idea is what I love most about muesli. I love that it is raw and healthy. It can be made with anything you already have on hand. Some key ingredients in my homemade muesli are of course The Grain Market Organic Rolled Oats, Flax seeds, and Pumpkin seeds. On occasion, I throw in some frozen fruit, walnuts, dried cherries, and coconut flakes. Almond milk is my liquid of choice. In the morning the oats have absorbed the milk and all the ingredients are plump and delicious. To make things even better I top my bowl with bananas and berries. There are so many possibilities that muesli can be made to fit even the pickiest of eaters fancy!!
