Have you heard of the term "sprouting"? Sprouting grains has been around for a long time but it is most recently being revisited by many health enthusiasts around the world. There are certain seeds and grains that have reproductive parts that allow them to grow and reproduce. They are soaked in water then strained and left at room temperature until they begin to sprout and ferment. Some of the most common things to sprout include, mung beans, alf alfa seeds, barley, wheat, rice, corn and oats. Many key nutrients like vitamin B, vitamin C, folate, fiber and essential amino acids become more readily available through the sprouting process. Sprouted grains may also become less allergenic. Chia, flax seeds and quinoa can be sprouted in 2 - 3 days. They can then be enjoyed in salads, sandwiches, soups and used as garnishes. Sprouting can be a wonderful project to get the whole family excited about growing fresh ingredients at home!
